O’Rourke, Udall, Castro visit Marcelino SernaPort of Entry in Tornillo

Representatives Beto O’Rourke, Joaquin Castro and Sen. Tom Udall are inside the immigrant detention center at the Marcelino Serna Port of Entry in Tornillo, visiting to observe and report on the status of the unaccompanied migrant minors being held.

The congressional visit comes almost one week after a protest led by O’Rourke on Father’s Day, where thousands of marchers called out against the separation of families.

O’Rourke said the members of Congress will be allowed to see the children, reported to be boys 16 and 17 years of age, but it’s unclear if they will be allowed to interact.

Udall told ABC-7 it’s important for members of Congress to visit these centers to be informed of the situation and act accordingly.

The visit started at 1 p.m. and is expected to last an hour.
