Man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend is arrested

El Paso police arrested a man suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend.

Zachary Zamora, 22, had been named a suspect and was on the run shortly after the slaying of Sylvia Guerrero, 20. She was shot inside her apartment at the Corona Del Valle complex on the 5400 block of Ridge Drive in West El Paso on June 3. Police said Zamora broke into Guerrero’s apartment before shooting her.

According to a news release, the El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit worked with U.S. Customs and Border Protections officers and the U.S. Marshals Service after they were notified that Zamora had been taken into custody in Juarez Chihuahua, Mexico. Zamora is being returned to the United States.

Zamora is being held in the El Paso County Jail on a more than $3 million bond. He is facing one count of murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and several outstanding traffic warrants.
