Wreck involving 2 semis, SUV shuts down I-10 West Wednesday morning

A wreck involving two tractor trailers and an SUV shut down I-10 West in Northwest El Paso for nearly two three hours.

The wreck was reported at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on I-10 West in the Vinton area. All westbound lanes are closed at I-10 West and Landfill. Traffic was being forced off the freeway at Transmountain until shortly after 1 p.m.

ABC-7’s photographer at the scene said it appeared a family riding in a black SUV rear-ended a semi truck. A second semi truck then rear-ended the family’s vehicle. Police have not confirmed that information.

The mangled SUV was stuck in between both tractor trailers and emergency crews had to rescue the family trapped inside.

Bystanders rescued a girl, pulling her out of the vehicle before emergency crews arrived. ABC-7’s photographer at the scene said the girl appears to be nine or ten years old.

A man and a woman were still inside the vehicle when emergency crews arrived. Crews removed the man, riding in the passenger seat, from the vehicle at about 11:15 a.m. The woman was removed shortly after noon.
