Parkland and Franklin fall in 7-on-7 state championship tournament Friday

Parkland and Franklin saw their time in the main bracket of the Texas State 7-on-7 football tournament come to a close Friday in College Station, TX.

Parkland opened up group play against Foster, which barely edged the Matadors by a final of 39-34.

Parkland would get back on track with a 44-34 win against Temple in their second game of the day. The Matadors concluded the group stage with a tough 39-28 loss to Sachse. Parkland finished in third place in its four-team group. Only the top two, however, advance to the championship bracket.

Franklin suffered a similar fate in group F. The Cougars lost their first game to Belton in a 41-14 rout. The Cougars got close in game two against Travis, but fell in a heartbreaker, 33-32.

Finally, they were officially booted in their group stage finale after falling 34-26 against Rockwell.

Both high schools will play in the consolation bracket on Saturday but can no longer win the state title.

Parkland will take on Mercedes High School in the first round of the consolation bracket Saturday at 8 a.m. CT. Meanwhile, Franklin will meet Hutto High School in their consolation opener later that morning.
