Danny Green meets with local fans ahead of annual basketball camp

San Antonio Spurs mainstay Danny Green is back in the Borderland, and in typical fashion, he took time before his annual camp to meet with fans and sign autographs.

Green, who is back in El Paso to host his basketball camp for the third year in a row, met with fans at the Pizza Hut at the Outlet Shoppes to pose for photos and talk about the game Friday night.

As you can imagine, one of the biggest topics was Tony Parker’s move to the Charlotte Hornets.

Parker, after spending 17 seasons with San Antonio, signed a two-year deal worth $10 million Friday with the Hornets.

“I’m shocked. I mean, I thought he was going to be a lifelong Spur,” said Green. “I mean, he still is. I think he’ll still be able to come back and retire as a Spur, but he’s got to do what’s best for him and his family, and I wish him the best. But it was a little shocking or surprising to me. And I don’t get shocked often.”

Green also took time out his day earlier Friday to meet with fans at El Paso Children’s Hospital.

He says he’s grown quite fond of the Sun City and hopes to come back as many years as he can.

“We do camp every year. We have great turnout every year, so we love El Paso,” said Green. “So, any chance we can, we try to get back here. So, as long as they welcome me here, I’ll come back every year.”
