EPPD identify person killed in deadly crash Saturday night along US-54

EL PASO, Texas-- El Paso Police have identified the person who was killed in a deadly crash Saturday night. It happened along Gateway North and Stan Roberts.

As ABC-7 previously reported, the accident happened on U.S. 54 northbound near Stan Roberts Sr Ave, just south of the New Mexico-Texas border. Two vehicles were involved in the crash.

Gabino Hernandez, 41, and Jose Ortiz Cedillos, 47, were travelling north on Gateway North in a 1998 GMC C3500.

According to police reports, both were broadsided by a 1995 Chevrolet K2500 driven by Jose Luis Ortiz Saucedo, 52, who failed to yield the right of way at the Stan Roberts intersection.

The GMC C3500 rolled and Jose Ortiz Cedillos, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and died of his injuries.

Gabino Hernandez sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to University Medical Center.

Neither occupant in the Chevrolet K2500 were injured.

Police confirm that this is 72nd traffic fatality compared to 70 at this time last year.
