EPPD: 3-year-old girl killed in wreck not properly restrained
Police said the 3-year-old girl critically injured in a wreck in South-Central El Paso Sunday afternoon was not properly restrained and died as a result of the injuries she sustained in the collision.
The wreck happened shortly after 5 p.m. at Paisano and Val Verde on July 15, 2018.
The girl, identified as Jaynale Molina, was riding in 1994 Honda Civic with 23-year-old Buendia Celina, 7-year-old Samantha Molina and 27-year-old Gerardo Molina. Police said Gerardo Molina was driving the Civic, heading east on the 4000 block of Paisano.
At the same time, 37-year-old Adrian Pacheco, of Juarez, Mexico, was traveling westbound on the 4000 block of Paisano in a 2009 Nissan Frontier.
“Adrian Pacheco attempted to make a U-turn without a protected green arrow in order to travel east on Paisano, and failed to yield the right-of-way to Gerardo Molina, resulting in Gerardo Molina striking Adrian Pacheco’s vehicle,” police said in a news release.
Police said three people in the Civic – Geraredo Molina, Jaynale Molina, and Samantha Molina – suffered serious injuries and were transported to University Medical Center for treatment. “While at University Medical Center, Jaynale Molina succumbed to her injuries,” police said. The other passenger in the Civic – Celina Buendia – was transported to Del Sol Medical Center for treatment, police said.
Adrian Pacheco and the three passengers in his Nissan – Cynthia Alvillar, Zaid Alvillar, and Alexandro Alvillar – were not injured in the collision.
Police said Pacheco remained at the scene. “Failure to yield the right-of-way on the part of Adrian Pacheco is a contributing factor in this collision,” police said, “Jaynale Molina was not restrained at the time of the collision.”
This is the 31st traffic death of the year compared to 28 at this time in 2017, police said.
