Investigators with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office charged a teenager accused of racing and causing a deadly wreck.

Deputies arrested 18-year-old Sarah Hernandez on July 17, 2018 and charged her with “Racing Causing Serious Bodily Injury” and “Racing Causing Death.”

Shortly after 12 a.m on Sunday, April 15, 2018, deputies responded to the 14000 block of Socorro Road to investigate a wreck involving two vehicles.

At the time, the sheriff’s office said an investigation revealed a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Socorro Rd. – when for an unknown reason – “the driver of the vehicle attempted to change direction on the roadway when it was struck by another vehicle.”

Deputies said two people were transported to a local area hospital and 46-year-old Robert Rodriguez of San Elizario, Texas was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Monday, July 23, 2018, the sheriff’s office said Hernandez was arrested in connection to Rodriguez’s death. Hernandez was booked into the county jail on bonds totaling $55,000.
