I-10 East back open after two deadly crashes in Far East El Paso
I-10 is back open after two separate deadly crashes Sunday night in Far East El Paso.
Two people died — one in each crash, according to officials. Both crashes happened on I-10 East in the Far East part of the county just before 10 p.m. They were about 12 miles apart.
Authorities opened the freeway where the crashes occurred until Monday morning.
The first one happened at 9:30 p.m. on I-10 East near Fabens. Investigators said it involved four vehicles.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said a passenger vehicle was in tow with another passenger vehicle when a third vehicle crashed with them, according to authorities. Investigators said that caused a chain reaction crash in which a fourth vehicle hit two of the other vehicles.
Two people were taken to the hospital where one was pronounced dead. Another person was injured but is expected to be OK.
The second crash happened at 9:45 p.m. on I-10 East near Horizon Boulevard. The Sheriff’s Office said an SUV was traveling on I-10 when the driver lost control. Officials said the vehicle rolled over and came to a stop on Gateway East Boulevard. It’s not known what caused the driver to lose control at this point of the investigation, authorities said.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, according to investigators.
