Former El Paso teacher accused of improper relationship with student arrested in Kansas

Authorities arrested the former El Paso teacher accused of having an improper relationship with student near Independence, Kansas just days after he was featured in Crime Stoppers of El Paso’s Most Wanted List.

Brian Everett Stewart, 34, of El Paso, is facing two counts of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student and was being sought by the El Paso Independent School District Police Department.

Stewart was arrested on August 9, 2018 with the help of the U.S. Marshals-led Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.

EPISD’s police department conducted an investigation into the allegations during Stewart’s time as an educator and coach for the district. On July 24, 2018, arrest warrants were issued for Stewart’s arrest and on July 30, 2-18, members of the task force joined the investigation in an attempt to locate and arrest Stewart.

On August 1, 2018, investigators obtained information indicating Stewart had left the El Paso area for a job in Kansas.

On August 9, 2018, with Deputy Marshals officers “hot on his trail,” Stewart left work for the day and began traveling south on state highway 75.

Investigators coordinated with the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, who were able to locate and arrest Stewart after conducting a traffic stop.

Stewart was booked into the Montgomery County, Kansas jail on two counts of improper relationship between educator and student. Although each count has a $25,000 bond assigned, Stewart is facing extradition to El Paso County, Texas.
