Racing For A Cause: ‘Stells Bold Journey’ to raise money for Stand With Estela Fund

Donations to the Stand with Estela fund are being made by schools, organizations and businesses.

This donation is coming from a four legged friend named “Stells Bold Journey.”

The yearling thoroughbred is named in honor of ABC-7 News Anchor Estela Casas and her year long journey with bilateral breast cancer.

Stells Bold Journey has a pink nose, two white socks, a star on his forehead and a sweet disposition.

The horse is the son of Attila’s Storm, considered by some as New Mexico’s leading stallion. Its mother is Bold Jubilation, also a stakes winner.

Stells Bold Journey has been training at A & A farms in Anthony, New Mexico. He’s eating feed and getting ready for auction August 17, 2018 in Ruidoso.

Horse trainer Fred Alexander describes Stell’s Bold Journey as smart and athletic. He expects him – like his full brother – to some day become a prize-winning racehorse.

“He has a good transmission and motor,” Alexander says, “He has strong and beautiful hips and shoulders.”

Owner Jimmy Dick said he is expecting a lot from the thoroughbred because of his pedigree. His dad, mom and full brother have earned their owners more than a million dollars.

Dick says his horse has a message of hope: “Stells Bold Journey is like you. You’ve made it. You’re cancer free so far.”

He’s hoping his yearling will earn the Stand with Estela fund a lot of money too.

Hundreds of horses will be up for auction Friday, Aug. 17 and Saturday, Aug. 18 at the 2017 New Mexico Bred Quarter Horse & Thoroughbred Sale at Ruidoso Downs.

On Friday, Aug. 17, Stells Bold Journey was auctioned off for $40,000 in just two minutes.
