Las Crucens approve GO Bond

Las Crucens have approved the $35.6 million GO bond.

As of 10 p.m. Tuesday night, 100 percent of the ballots have been tallied.

ABC-7 talked with Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima about the GO bond earlier this week. He thinks the bond will help the city.

“The city does well, but none the less, this will just take us to a whole different level of amenities that I believe the city really needs to have,” Miyagishima said. “We’re having a lot of people moving in, bringing…their children and we definitely need more parks and more ball fields.”

All four bond questions that appeared on the ballot have been approved.

Out of 15,198 ballots, over 8,000 people voted for improvements for park and recreational fields.

10,190 people voted in favor of building a new animal shelter.

Another 10,000 have voted in favor of renovating Fire Station #3, which was built over 50 years ago.

Out of 14,822 votes, 8,554 people voted in favor of walking, jogging and hiking trails while 6,268 people voted against it.

The deadline for mail-in ballots was 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Because all parts of the bond have been approved, a homeowner with property valued at $100,000 would pay an additional $70 in taxes per year.
