Community Champion: Campbell Bowden hopes to lead Coronado to special year
The Coronado volleyball team is used to success, but they’re hoping to turn this season into something magical behind the play of team captain Campbell Bowden.
“El Paso should be very proud that you have a great volleyball program here, especially at Coronado with these girls that really work hard,” said head coach Raul Lawrence. “And they work as hard as any other program here in El Paso.”
That hard work has paid off for Bowden, who was named a member of the Texas Association of Volleyball Coaches Watch List earlier this month.
The outside hitter has helped lead the Thunderbirds to a 14-4 record so far, despite playing a schedule littered with top talent in Texas.
“We all have a special bond, and we’ve all been playing together for a long time now,” said Bowden. “So, I think it’s our year to shine, and for all of us to come together.”
Bowden verbally committed last year to Baylor, but she says she still has unfinished business at Coronado.
“I’m just excited for this season and really blessed to be a Coronado T-Bird. This team is just so special. And after I leave, it’s just so sad to think I’m not going to get to play with them forever” she said. “But I love them, and I just want to make this last season count.”
