Looking back at Hurricane Harvey on one year anniversary

It’s been one year since Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Port Arkansas, in East Texas.

The hurricane dropped more than three feet of rain in the Houston area, devastating East Texas.

ABC 7 went out to Houston last year to bring you direct coverage of the hurricane. Julio Cesar Chavez and former ABC 7 reporter Evan Folan were on assignment and said the most impressive experience was seeing a constant stream of boats and volunteers floating into the area through the highways to help complete strangers.

EPISD Board President Trent Hatch was one of many who stepped up.

Hatch told ABC 7 “We spent plenty of time looking for ways to help, getting out boats into the water, searching for people, animals” Mexico came to aid in the relief efforts as well. Those with boats joined the Cajun Navy, a civilian volunteer group from Louisiana with people helping rescue stranded residents and animals. El Paso lent a helping hand, our first responders and soldiers heading out to work and help how they each could.
EL Pasoans joined Texans and people from around the world.
In boats or in cars, poeple were rescued, given food and shelter, all through the hard work done by the Houston community and those who joined them for a time.
The relief efforts and constant work from everyone left an impression on every single person around Houston in late August, 2017
