Back to School: Ysleta ISD opens two new campuses on first day of class
The Ysleta Independent School District marks the first day back to class with the opening of two new campuses.
Bel Air Middle School is located at 7909 Ranchland in the Lower Valley and was made possible through the 2015 voter-approved bond.
It is the product of the consolidation of Hillcrest and Ranchland Hills, two older middle schools with decreasing populations.
Bel Air Middle was built at former site of the Transition to Learning Center, a prekindergarten campus. That was also once home to Bel Air Junior High School.
The learning center was demolished to make way for the new middle school, which was built from the ground up.
The new middle school has capacity for 1,000 students. District officials told ABC-7 that the population is at 800 students as of Friday.
The new school will offer collaborative learning spaces, computer labs, STEM labs, visual/performing arts facilities and other state-of-the-art facilities, as well as full athletics.
Thomas Manor Elementary School is another campus that will open to students on Monday.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday. To read more about Thomas Manor, click here.
