Board of Regents announces new chancellor for UT System
The UT System Board of Regents has announced James B. Milliken as the new chancellor of the UT System.
The Board of Regents votes unanimously to appoint Milliken Monday. Milliken will be the 12th chancellor for the UT System.
He comes the UT System after serving as chancellor for The City University of New York (CUNY).
He has worked in higher education for over 30 years. In addition to CUNY, Milliken has worked at major public universities including the University of Nebraska (NU) and the University of North Carolina (UNC).
Milliken will succeed former chancellor William H. McRaven. McRaven resigned as chancellor back in May.
Milliken, a fifth-generation Nebraskan has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska and a law degree from New York University.
In a statement Milliken said, “I’m eager to get started at the UT System and do everything I can to help ensure that our institutions are successful in their roles that have never been more important to the people of Texas and our nation.”
Milliken’s first day as chancellor is Sept. 17.
