Baltimore releases Alvin Jones while Denver cuts Jordan Leslie
The Baltimore Ravens waived former UTEP linebacker Alvin Jones Friday, while the Broncos cut former Miners wide receiver Jordan Leslie.
Jones had been on the bubble the past couple of weeks due to an undisclosed injury.
During the first two preseason games of the year Jones was always around the ball, but then he began missing practice time. Jones did not appear in the team’s final two preseason contests.
Alvin is the twin brother of Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones, who scored his first preseason touchdown last night against the Chiefs.
Previously, the Ravens also placed former NMSU wide receiver Jaleel Scott on injured reserve for the year. Scott was selected in the fourth round of this year’s draft.
Another UTEP talent who was let go Friday was Denver Broncos receiver Jordan Leslie.
Leslie played for UTEP from 2011 to 2014 and is one of only six Miners to rack up more than 200 receiving yards in one game.
It looked like Leslie could make the team after four strong appearances during the preseason including last night’s tally of five catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.
However, Leslie exited the last preseason game against the Browns with a hamstring injury.
Leslie said this on Twitter following the news: “Back to back years of leading a team in receptions/reception yards and still being cut… Crazy business.”
