Texas Senate candidates weigh in on Kavanaugh confirmation

Now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh has been confirmed and the Texas Senate race goes on.

The president nominates Supreme Court Justices and the Senate votes to confirm the nominee.
With Justice Kavanaugh now sworn in, the future structure of the court depends on the Senators elected in November.

Texas candidates Beto O’Rourke and Ted Cruz are already speaking about what this means ahead of their election.

Ted Cruz voted to confirm Trump nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Beto O’Rourke has been speaking out against the move.
With Kavanaugh officially part of the court, the two candidates still have plenty to say about the case.

“We saw Senate democrats engaging in partisan mudslinging and dragging Judge kavanaugh and his family through the dirt in a way that no one should have been subjected to,” Cruz said after the confirmation vote.

“I want to acknowledge the disappointment that many of us, including myself, feel,” O’Rourke said at a rally Saturday.

Speaking at a rally O’Rourke talked about the direction he would take if elected to the Senate

“I want a Supreme court justice who will rule in favor of people over corporations, people over special interests, people over PACs and Super PACS, people every single time, so we have every right and every reason right now to be disappointed in this decision the senate made,” O’Rourke said.

Meanwhile Cruz spoke to the confirmation being a result of voter decisions made in the 2016 election.

“Much of the anger the rag the hatred we see spilling over comes from left wing activist comes from left wing activists who are angry at the American people for making that choice, who are angry at the american people for electing president Trump, and who are angry at the American people for electing republican majorities to both houses of congress, but our democratic processes work and our people have a right to make these fundamental decisions,” Cruz said.

The last day to register to vote is this Tuesday, October 9.
