Person barricaded inside home, SWAT responds to scene

A man suspected was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a 12 hour standoff with police.

Local authorities and SWAT were called out to a Northeast El Paso neighborhood Wednesday morning, according to police.

It started with a shots fired call at a residence in a mobile home park on the 7500 block of Howard Street around 3:30 a.m.

At about 4 this afternoon, El Paso Police told ABC-7 the suspected gunman walked out. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

El Paso police said one white SUV with New Mexico license plates was found on the scene with bullet holes. The driver was not injured.

At least one person was barricaded inside the home. Police said the Crisis Management and SWAT teams were called to assist the situation.

Police also said a woman eventually stepped out of the home and was charged with possession of meth.

Officers surrounding the neighborhood were seen wearing helmets. Officers told residents to use caution in the area.

“Come out with your hands out” could be heard over a loud speaker.

The El Paso Independent School District confirmed Lee Elementary and Magoffin Middle schools are on “lock out.”

Spokesman Gustavo Reveles said instructional time was underway, but no one is allowed to go in or out of the building.

EPISD officers were at both campuses.
