Men’s basketball: NMSU beats UTEP in first meeting of the season

Rodney Terry, the new UTEP head basketball coach was looking for his second win of the season, but he’ll have to wait a little longer.

The Miners took on their rivals, the NMSU Aggies, out at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces Friday night, but the evening belong to New Mexico State.

UTEP started hot putting up 18 to the Aggies’ 9 early in the first half, but NMSU would come back.

New Mexico State went on a bit of a run themselves thanks to a supremely-balanced offensive attack.

The Aggies would lead the Miners by four at the break.

New Mexico State would start to heat up thought in the second half.

They went on an eight to nothing run early in the half, increasing their lead to 59-45. .

The Aggies were not done though.

After going on another great run in the second half, NMSU would put the Miners out of their misery, winning 96 to 69.

Evan Gilyard put up 25 points in the losing effort for the Miners.

The Aggies had five players that scored in double-digits, leading to the big win.
