Holly Watts will not return as UTEP’s volleyball coach

UTEP announced Monday afternoon that head volleyball coach Holly Watts will not return next season after the Miners posted a 48-127 record in her six seasons as head coach.

“While the hard work and dedication is unquestioned, the results on the court did not meet expectations under Holly’s leadership,” UTEP athletic director Jim Senter said. “We thank her for her service to UTEP and wish her well in the future.”

The UTEP volleyball team finished this past season with a 5-21 record, winning only two of their 14 Conference USA matches.

Watts led the Miners to 14 wins in her first season at the helm in 2013, but that was the last time the program posted a double-digit win total in a single season.

UTEP will now conduct a national search to find the school’s next volleyball coach.

This news comes two weeks after UTEP parted ways with women’s soccer coach Kevin Cross. Cross had been with the UTEP soccer program for 21 years, including 18 seasons as head coach.
