EL PASO, Texas Border Patrol officials addressed the International Water Boundary Commission earlier this evening to discuss the figures behind fiscal year 2019. Without surprise Border Patrol confirmed what ABC-7 had been reporting all year long.

It was a record breaking year for the agency, agents apprehended more than 182,000 migrants in the El Paso sector. That represents a jump of more than 500 percent compared to the same time last fiscal year in 2018.

It is also important to high light that the El Paso sector also saw the largest group apprehended at one time for the region. During fiscal year 2019 Border Patrol officials apprehended a group comprised of 1,036 people. Agents in the area also saw a record break for the number of people apprehended in a single day, that figure is comprised of more than 2,200 people.

The vast majority of migrants apprehended represent asylum seekers from Central American countries like, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Agents also saw an influx of asylum seekers from countries like Cuba and Brazil.

While Border Patrol agents at the meeting were not immediately available for comment they tell ABC-7 the agency has taken steps to prepare for another possible wave of migrants this summer.

At the same time it is important to report that Border Patrol has reported declining numbers for seven months.
