EPPD: vehicle left the scene following 60th traffic fatality of the year

The El Paso police are investigating the death of a man struck by two vehicles at I-10 West at Geronimo, making this the 60th traffic fatality in El Paso this year.

Special Traffic Investigations officers were called to the scene of a fatal traffic accident that occurred at around 1 A.M. on November 10, 2018.

Investigators say Latorey Jamelle Blizzard, 40, was crossing the westbound lanes of I-10 when he was struck by a 2006 White Nissan Altima driven by 28 year-old Joel Villareal Soto.

At this point, police say Blizzard was struck while on the ground by a second vehicle, described as a silver 1998 – 2002 Honda Accord.

The Honda Accord continued driving westbound without stopping. Blizzard died at the scene.

Blizzard’s death marks the 60th traffic fatality of 2018. People are advised to be cautious of any pedestrians, especially while driving in dimly lit areas.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call Special Traffic Investigations (STI) at (915) 212-4080.
