UTEP crushed at home by Southern Miss in season finale

The UTEP Miners were never competitive in a dismal performance at home against Southern Miss to end the 2018 season.

The Miners fell 39-7, with their lone touchdown coming in the final seconds of the game to help them avoid a shutout.

Brandon Jones connected with Erik Brown on a 41-yard strike with seven seconds to go to help UTEP get on the board after Southern Miss scored the first 39 points of the game.

Jones finished the game 11/23 for 114 yards and one touchdown to go along with three interceptions.

As a team, the Miners coughed up four turnovers while not forcing Southern Miss to commit any of their own.

The Miners were held to just 187 yards of total offense and never rallied after falling behind 16-0 in the first quarter.

The Miners finish the year with a 1-11 record and are 1-23 over the past two seasons.

Southern Miss got its sixth win of the year to become bowl eligible and now sits at 6-5 overall (they had a game against Appalachian State postponed earlier this year).
