About 500 migrants rush Tijuana border trying to find way to cross

According to the twitter page for Customs and Border Protection in San Diego, the San Ysidro Port of Entry is closed as Central Americans migrants try to cross into the United States.

The closure happened after a large group of about 500 migrants broke through Mexican federal police barricades and began moving towards the border. Reporters for Milenio Noticias in Mexico say people jumped, climbed and tore through a chain link fence, running into a Tijuana neighborhood, appearing to be lost.

The migrants then rushed the border, seemingly trying to find ways to cross into the United States.

The Associated Press is reporting most of the migrants rushing the border are men.

Milenio Noticias is also reporting helicopters are flying above the scene and Border Patrol agents are present on the U. S. side of the fence.

“Strategy. Today we are not going to cross. We are distracting them. There are thousands trying to cross through another area,” a migrant told Milenio Noticias before smiling and pumping his fist.

There is currently no idication of another large group trying to rush the border at this time.

President Trump took to Twitter, criticizing Mexico’s handling of the caravans.

“Would be very SMART if Mexico would stop the Caravans long before they get to our Southern Border, or if originating countries would not let them form (it is a way they get certain people out of their country and dump in U.S. No longer),” he wrote.
