NMSU obliterates New Mexico, 100-65, to complete season sweep
There was very little doubt concerning who would win Tuesday’s matchup between New Mexico and New Mexico State after the opening minutes.
The Aggies jumped out to an 11-0 lead early on and proceeded to demolish the Lobos to claim their fifth straight win in the series.
The only question after the first few minutes was whether NMSU would be able to score 100 points.
They did that in a statement victory, 100-65, to complete the season sweep over UNM.
After securing a close 98-94 victory less than three weeks ago at The Pit, the Aggies simply overpowered UNM in the rematch.
JoJo Zamora poured in 27 points to lead the Aggies while Ivan Aurrecoechea added 23 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Eli Chuha also racked up a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards in the victory.
The Lobos only managed to connect on 29.5% of their shots (18-61) and never led in the game.
UNM fell to 4-2 on the season with both losses coming at the hands of the Aggies.
NMSU, meanwhile, improved to 7-1 with a showdown looming Saturday in Kansas City against the second-ranked Kansas Jayhawks.
