Manager with special needs makes basketball game debut

Tuesday night was a dream come true for one high school student. Angie Guereca is a special-needs student and the manager of Pebble Hills High School girls basketball team.

Teammates said she is at the campus every morning for the team’s practice and is their biggest supporter. As the Spartans took on the Clint High School Lions, Guereca was able to suit up and play alongside her peers.

When Guereca was asked how she felt when she was told she could play, said she was excited. “What did you do?” she was asked by a reporter. “I cried,” Guereca responded.

She scored a few points in front of the home crowd, with both her team and her family cheering her on. Those points meant that Guereca was able to contribute to the win over Clint.

“She’s always wanted to play. Her dream was always to play on a team,” Pebble Hills sophomore Christina Arowosegbe said. “We wanted to give her that dream.”
