UPDATE: Uptown streetcar loop set to reopen

UPDATE: Sun Metro told ABC-7 the streetcar has no major damage and the damaged tracks have been repaired, meaning the uptown streetcar loop could reopen as soon as Friday night.

The uptown streetcar loop is not currently operational after a wreck involving the streetcar on Thursday, a Sun Metro spokesman told ABC-7.

Sun Metro said there is a problem with Streetcar No. 14’s overhead contact system.

The wreck happened Thursday evening at Stanton and University. The streetcar collided with a pickup truck at the intersection.

Sun Metro said Friday morning the downtown streetcar loop is still operating as normal.

The affected uptown loop goes up Stanton, west on University then south on Oregon. Sun Metro did not say when service would resume.
