Longtime KVIA assignment editor Carlos Rosales dies

The KVIA family has lost one of its members.

Carlos Rosales, who served as photographer, assignment editor and assistant news director at ABC-7 suffered a heart attack on Saturday.

He was fearless, tough, tireless.

Our condolences go out to his daughter Carla who is now receiving messages from all over the country from journalists he touched and trained during his four decades in the business.

He worked as a photographer for the El Paso Herald Post, the El Paso Times and then as news manager at TV stations WFAA in Dallas, KOAT and KLUZ in Albuquerque and KTSM and KVIA in El Paso.

The majority of his career was spent at KVIA ABC-7, where viewers would often see his work as he would doggedly pursue information from public information officers and cover overnight breaking news and weather.

From covering Central American conflicts in the 80s, to spending the night shadowing Red Cross workers at the height of the drug war in Juarez, to photographing people drenched in rain or an El Paso sunrise, Carlos had an unparalleled drive for capturing moments with a lens.

We join his daughter, family and friends as we mourn the loss of a passionate and dedicated newsman.
