US 54 FATAL: Driver of Volkswagen veered into path of F-150, El Paso Police say
The driver of a Volkswagen Jetta was killed after she veered into the path of an 18-wheeler and then into the path of a Ford F-150, colliding with the pickup truck, El Paso Police said.
Police identified the driver of the Jetta as 47-year-old Maria Elena Rico, of the 3300 block of Rivera.
The wreck happened December 19, 2018 at 7:34 p.m. on US Highway 54 near mile marker 25.5, police said.
Rico died at the scene as a result of her injuries, police said.
Two passengers in Rico’s Jetta, 31-year-old Maria Stephanie Rico and 10-month-old Elijah Ramirez, both of the 3300 block of Rivera, were hospitalized at University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, police said.
Police said the drivers of the F-150 and the 18-wheeler were not injured as a result of the wreck.
This was the 67th traffic fatality of 2018 in El Paso, police said. At this same time last year, 52 traffic fatalities had been reported.
