El Paso Police release murder statistics from 1960 to 2018

The city of El Paso experienced 23 murders for the year ending December 31, 2018, El Paso Police said in a news release Wednesday.

El Paso has averaged 23 murders per year during the 59 year span in between 1960 and 2018.

During the past decade, El Paso has averaged sixteen 16 murders per year.

If you look at the past five years, the city averaged 18 murders a year.

The El Paso Police Department said its Crimes Against Persons unit has a 95.6 percent clearance rate over the past five years.

That figure is comparable the national average murder clearance rate of 61.6 percent – as reported by the FBI.
