Security preps involving several agencies underway for President Trump’s visit to El Paso

The Trump campaign announced the president will host a Make America Great Again rally in El Paso on Monday, February 11th.

The rally, which is the president’s seventh in Texas, but first in El Paso, is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm at the El Paso County Coliseum.

“Our security plan will be a collaborative effort,” said Ed Garcia, with the U.S. Secret Service. Meaning, “almost all law enforcement agencies in the El Paso area” will be involved in security.

El Paso GOP Chairman Adolpho Telles said with a high-profile visit to the Borderland security is always a risk.

“There will be undercover police, there will be secret service, Texas DPS,” said Telles. “Clearly we’ll have FBI involvement. Security will be tight. All of that gets coordinated through Washington.”

The El Paso GOP reached out to the Trump campaign on numerous occasions, according to Telles, but wasn’t aware of the president’s planned visit until the public was informed.

Regarding any opposition to the president’s visit, he said people are entitled to their opinion, but should have respect for the office of the presidency.

“That doesn’t mean you have to like him,” said Telles.”I deal with people all the time that we have strong differences of opinion, but that doesn’t mean I disrespect them, that doesn’t mean I want any violence towards them.
