Police identify man who killed 7-11 clerk in Far East El Paso; believe stolen gun used in crime

El Paso Police Friday identified 24-year-old Sharod Chavez Moore as the man who allegedly shot and killed 25-year old Arbin Iglesias, a 7-Eleven clerk, in Far East El Paso.

Police said Moore robbed a security guard of his gun at the Sun Metro Transfer Center located at 1165 Sunmount Tuesday night. “It is believed that was the weapon used in the crime spree that followed the next day,” said police.

The gasoline station where Iglesias was murdered is located on the 2100 block of Zaragoza, off Sunfire.

Pebble Hills Regional Command police officers responded to the 7-Eleven store on a welfare check regarding the store clerk. When the officers entered the store, they found the clerk dead from an apparent gunshot wound in a backroom.

“The investigation revealed Iglesias was the victim of a capital murder during a robbery and his truck was stolen by the offender,” said police in a news release.

Detectives believe the killer, Chavez Moore, fled El Paso County in the stolen truck and was traveling east. Law enforcement agencies nationwide were alerted about the victim’s stolen pickup, a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado.

Police said the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed the stolen vehicle was located in Junction, Texas and the “offender is deceased.”

At approximately 10:40 a.m., a state trooper initiated a traffic stop involving a gray Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck on I-10 in Kimble County.

As the trooper approached the vehicle, the driver opened fire on him. As the trooper returned fire, the suspect fled in the pickup, DPS said.

Kimble County deputies assisted in the pursuit after the suspect also fired rounds in their direction.

The pursuit ended a short time later when the driver of the vehicle was found dead from a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation.
