‘The Cabaret’ shut down; County alleges prostitution, drug use and illegal alcohol sales

The El Paso County Attorney’s Office has obtained a temporary restraining order against “The Cabaret” strip club in Central El Paso, alleging illegal activity that had been going on for several years.

The strip club, located at 4834 Montana Avenue, was shut down on February 22, 2019 pending the outcome of a temporary injunction hearing scheduled for March 5, 2019

The county attorney’s office said the lawsuit is the result of coordinated work involving the Texas Alcoholic and Beverage Commission, the El Paso Police Department’s Vice Unit and law enforcement partners at the Texas Anti-Gang Center.

It was initiated after the county attorney’s office received information about dozens of law enforcement calls regarding issues at the establishment.

With the assistance of several undercover law enforcement officers during the past several months, the County Attorney allegedly documented “prevalent and repeated violations at the business, including possession and delivery of narcotics, an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, prostitution and the sale and storage of alcohol without a license.”

“For at least two decades, residents in Central El Paso have been complaining about illegal activityat the establishment and asking authorities to do something about this adult club located in themiddle of a densely populated area,” said El Paso County Attorney Jo Anne Bernal. “We are grateful to all law enforcement agencies that worked with us on this case to finallyaddress the concerns of residents. This club is located in a shopping mall that is frequented byfamilies with children, and the operation of this business was a serious nuisance to them.”
