Woman terrified after man caught scoping home: ‘My youngest was in the room at the time’
A Northeast El Paso woman told ABC-7 she reached out to El Paso Police after survellaince cameras recorded a man attempting to enter her home. According to the woman, police said there is nothing they could do because the man did not break into her home, but did offer to drive by her home at night.
Tabitha Perry Stachura shared footage of a man suspected of trying to break into her home on the 5200 block of Colin Powell Sunday morning.
Stachura posted the video on Facebook. It shows the man approach her home around 4:15 a.m., open the security door and attempt to open the front door. “He even covered his hand with his sweater,” said Stachura, who inspected the door for fingerprints.
Stachura said the family dog recently died, prompting her to search for a security system.
“All our vehicles were home and the lights were on,” said Stachura, adding her door was locked and you can hear the man rattling the doorknob in the footage.
The suspect then peeked through the window of the door, something Stachura said was one of the most terrifying parts of the clip. “My youngest was sleeping in the living room at the time,” she said.
Stachura told ABC-7 the man in the video “didn’t check to see if the vehicles were unlocked” and simply walked straight to her door.
“Now, I worry about my kids walking home,” said Stachura, “What if this wasn’t the first time (he) came to my house?”
