UTEP guard Jordan Lathon named C-USA Freshman of the Week

UTEP guard Jordan Lathon has been named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Monday.

Lathon poured in a career-high 32 points Saturday in a double-overtime loss to Rice to set a new UTEP freshman record for points in a single game.

The 6-4 guard hit 12 of his 16 shots from the field and also added 18 rebounds to complete a monster double-double.

Lathon is the first UTEP player in nearly three years to score 30 or more in a single game. Lee Moore was the last member of the Miners to accomplish that feat when he scored exactly 30 in a C-USA Tournament victory against FIU in March of 2016.

UTEP freshmen have now won a total of five freshman of the week awards. In addition to Lathon’s pair of awards, Efe Odigie has also won the award twice while Nigel Hawkins has won it once.

The weekly honor is chosen by a media panel representing each of the 14 members of Conference USA.

The Miners are off until Sunday when they play at Charlotte.
