El Paso International honored as ‘Best Airport in North America’ for 2018

El Paso International Airport has been recognized by the Aiports Council International as the 2018 Best Airport in North America, said El Paso Mayor Dee Margo.

El Paso International beat participating airports who serve in between two and five million passengers annually, said Margo.

During the ceremony to announce the honor, El Paso City Manager Tommy Gonzalez thanked City Council for its support attracting new airlines and flights to the city.

“We are a big city. We are a top 20 city. We need to act like a top 20 city,” said Gonzalez. “19 more direct flights have come to El Paso, 15 in the last year-in-a-half, thanks to Council’s support in offering incentives.”

The City of El Paso said its airport has invested more than $200 million in capital improvements in the past five years, resulting in upgraded facilities and added amenities. In 2018, the airport surpassed 3-million passengers, an 11 percent increase in total passenger traffic compared to 2017, the City said.
