UPDATE: Organ fire almost contained as of Wednesday; no cause yet
The Bureau of Land Management has not yet released a cause for the fire burning east of Las Cruces on the Organ Mountains.
On Saturday evening, the fire could be seen from Las Cruces.
On Wednesday, the fire was almost 100 percent contained, confirmed Rico Smith, a spokesman for the Bureau of Land Management.
The fire is still at 50 acres, Smith said. It has not grown. He said there is one BLM engine working on the fire and that the helicopter has left the scene.
On an unrelated note, Smith said a prescribed burn at Dripping Springs on Tuesday “went well.”
