UTEP drops home finale to Middle Tennessee
The UTEP men’s basketball team dropped its regular season home finale to Middle Tennessee Wednesday night at the Don Haskins Center.
UTEP falls to 8-20 on the season and 3-14 in Conference USA play after the 69-53 loss to the Blue Raiders.
Miner coach Rodney Terry was displeased with his team’s performance. You can watch postgame reaction from Terry here:
UTEP’s lone senior, Paul Thomas, finished with 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Miners will miss this year’s C-USA Tournament and will finish the 2018-19 season at Middle Tennessee Saturday. Terry says they’ll be giving that game their full attention, knowing that it can provide them with some momentum heading into the offseason.
“We have to get better in the spring. We know that. Our young players have to take a huge leap developmentally this spring. They know that. They know what they need to work on,” he said.
UTEP has now dropped five games in a row and lost eight of their last nine.
Antonio Green scored a game-high 26 points to lead Middle Tennessee to their seventh conference win (10-20, 7-10).
The Blue Raiders never trailed during the game and jumped out to an early 8-0 lead. They would go on to grab a 19-point lead at the half and a 29-point lead during the second half before UTEP rallied to make the final appear more respectable.
