Alamogordo man charged with raping a minor

A grand jury in Otero County, NM has charged a man with raping a minor, according to the 12th Judicial District Attorney.

38-year-old James Scharmack has been charged with 15 counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor (child under 13 years old) – also referred to as rape, two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor in the second degree, and three counts of attempted criminal sexual penetration of a minor.

Scharmack is being held without bond until trial. If found guilty, he faces a sentence of 345 years in prison.

The case is being prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney Scot Key and was investigated by the Alamogordo Police Deparment.
