Snow into spring “can easily happen” as El Pasoans enjoy white capped mountains
As winter ends over the next few days, Saturday may not be the last time we have snow into the beginning of spring.
“Throughout the city it’s not as common to get those types of snows that are real heavy and stick around, but to get a dusting of snow, one or two inches that quickly melt away, that can easily happen as we head toward the springtime around here,” said Jason Laney, with the National Weather Service.
El Pasoans are enjoying this while they can. Even with temperatures pretty cold in the 30s up at Smuggler’s Pass a steady stream of families, some with their four legged friends, have been going into the mountains.
Most of the snow seen Saturday morning has melted but there was still enough left in the afternoon for people to enjoy.
Some have even hiked up to Mammoth rock where the clouds are still covering the area and told ABC-7 snow was sticking around with the colder temperatures, adding to the view.
“It clears up and looks nice and then there’s a lot of more snow up there. It’s kind of fun to be outside and play in your backyard,” said Hector Adame, a hiker.
If you’re planning to go out and enjoy a bit of hiking bring warm insulating clothes and something to keep your ears covered.
The most important thing is bring plenty of water, even if it’s cold you’ll need at least two liters per person. Don’t go hiking at night.
