EPPD: Woman in medical distress collided head-on with pickup, died at the scene

Police identified the woman killed in a head-on collision Wednesday in El Paso’s Upper Valley as 68-year-old Evangeline Slavik.

Police said Slavik was driving a 2008 BMW north on the 3900 block of Doniphan when she veered onto oncoming traffic “while undergoing some type of medical distress.”

Slavik’s BMW collided head-on with a 1994 Chevrolet utility truck operated by 30-year-old David Tovar, police said. The wreck happened on March 20, 2019 at about 12:40 p.m.

Tovar and a 16-year-old boy riding in the truck were transported to a hospital. Police said the boy suffered minor injuries, but Tovar suffered serious injuries.

The wreck, which led to the closure of Doniphan for several hours, remains under investigation.
