Sunland Derby takes the track for 2019
Cutting Humor is the winner of the 16th annual Sunland Derby Sunday.
The Sunland track will see a total of seven races Sunday, culminating with the Sunland Derby.
Cutting Humor, will receive 50 points toward the Kentucky Derby, which all but confirms an entry to the nation’s biggest horse race.
Of the ten horses running Much Gusto was the main favorite.
“Mucho Gusto is the horse that came in from California. We have really good betting race all day, but Mucho Gusto will be the favorite of the Sunland Derby,” said Dustin Dix, racing director at Sunland Park Racetrack.
The derby has an $800,000 purse for the winner.
The 2018 race saw Runaway Ghost, a local horse win, but a shin injury left him on the sidelines before reaching Kentucky.
