EPPD: Man attempted to flee from officers; in possession of cocaine, THC vials and marijuana

A Northeast El Paso who attempted to flee from gang unit officers was in possession of cocaine, THC liquid and marijuana, said El Paso Police.

Police charged Rodolfo Munoz, 30, with Evading Arrest or Detention in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Controlled Substance (Cocaine), Possession of Controlled Substance (Tetrahydrocannabinol), Possession of Marijuana Under Two Ounces, Tampering or Fabricating Physical Evidence With Intent to Impair an Investigation. At the time of his arrest, Munoz also had three outstanding municipal warrants, police said.

Shortly after midnight on Friday, March 22, 2019, gang unit officers noticed Munoz driving a 2003 gold Buick west on Hondo Pass. Police said the vehicle had a defective brake light.

The officers attempted to pull Munoz over for the traffic violation, but he allegedly refused to stop the vehicle. Police said Munoz continued to drive on Mt. Delano, then turned onto Mt. Rushmore.

” As Munoz turned onto Mt. Rushmore, he attempted to throw illegal narcotics out the window, ” said police in a news release.

Munoz eventually pulled over, police said, and an investigation revealed Munoz was allegedly in possession of 13.6 grams of Cocaine, a small amount of marijuana and two vials containing 27.3 grams of tetrahydrocannabinol.

Police said Munoz attempted to discard a vial of THC liquid and a small amount of cocaine. Police allegedly recovered an additional vial of THC, more marijuana and three small baggies of cocaine.

Munoz was booked into the county jail on a $25,000 bond.
