H.S. Soccer: Bel Air advances to Sweet 16 while San Elizario makes history

The Bel Air boys soccer team continued its dominant run in the 5A state playoffs with a convincing 5-0 victory over Eastlake at the SAC Thursday evening.

That win puts the Highlanders into the regional semifinals (Sweet 16) and has them sitting just two wins from a trip to state and four wins from a state championship.

The Highlanders have now outscored their first three opponents this postseason by a combined score of 12-0 to improve to 24-1 overall on the year.

Bel Air won each of their three matchups this season against district rival Eastlake by four goals or more.

Big Red will next meet the winner of Birdville and Burleson, who are scheduled to play Friday night.

Also in 5A boys soccer, Del Valle had a chance to move on to the regional semifinals as well, but they fell 2-1 against Wichita Falls.

However, the success of our local teams would continue in Class 4A with a dominant showing by both the San Elizario boys and girls teams.

The boys team, the defending state champions, made quick work of Dumas in their third round matchup and came away with an 8-0 victory.

Meanwhile, the San Elizario girls team has broken through to the regional semifinals for the first time after also beating Dumas in convincing fashion, 5-0, on Thursday.
