Burges basketball star Tristen Newton commits to East Carolina
Burges basketball standout Tristen Newton confirmed Friday night on Twitter that he has committed to play for East Carolina at the next level.
Newton, who scored more than 3,000 points in his high school career, thanked God, his coaches and teammates in the post.
But he saved the biggest thanks for his brother Jawaun Newton, who just wrapped up his freshman season at Evansville after a successful career at Burges.
“The biggest shout out goes to my brother,” wrote Tristen Newton. “You’ve always been there for me on and off the court, and I cannot thank you enough for being my best friend.”
East Carolina plays in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and was 10-21 overall a season ago with a 3-15 mark in conference play. But the team did record a nice win against conference powerhouse Cincinnati, and Newton has the ability to provide instant offense in the coming years.
