Brian Green introduced as Washington State’s head baseball coach

Former New Mexico State baseball coach Brian Green was introduced as the new head coach at Washington State today, two days after accepting the Cougars’ offer to lead their baseball program.

Green had spent the previous 5 seasons as coach of New Mexico State, his alma mater, and turned around a program that hade made just three postseason appearances prior to his arrival. Green engineered a historic run for the Aggies that saw them win at least 34 games in each of the last four seasons.

“To the previous administration at New Mexico State, Mario Moccia, Braun Cartwright, and to Chancellor (Dan) Arvizu, I came from a school pretty limited in resources but not limited in heart and drive and passion,” said Green at his introductory press conference. “A big chip on our shoulder down in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and we found a way to be successful with not much.”

The Aggies are coming off a season in which they went 38-17 and won the Western Athletic Conference regular season title, as well as setting a school record for batting average (.356) in a single season.

The search for Green’s replacement at New Mexico State is underway.
