EL PASO, Texas - El Paso City Council District 6 Rep. Claudia Ordaz-Perez announced Wednesday she plans to run for the Texas House District 76 seat in 2020.

The seat was previously held by Cesar Blanco who announced earlier this year he will run for the Texas Senate seat that is held by Jose Rodriguez. Rodriguez announced back in September that he would be retiring and won't seek re-elction for 2020.

Ordaz-Perez will go against Elisa Tamayo for the seat. Tamayo announced her candidacy back on Sept. 30. Tamayo has worked in both Blanco and Rodriguez's office for more than four years.

Ordaz-Perez announced her candidacy outside the Ysleta Mission Wednesday. So far Ordaz-Perez and Tamayo are the only candidates in the race. The filing period to run in the Texas 2020 elections is Nov. 9 - Dec. 9.
