UTEP students living on campus forced to leave due to coronavirus concerns

EL PASO, Texas -- University of Texas at El Paso students living on campus are being asked to find another place to live due to coronavirus concerns.

According to a tweet from the university, students are being asked "to find alternative off-campus living arrangements" as a result of guidelines set by the University of Texas System.

In a letter to academic presidents, UT System Chancellor James B. Milliken said this is just one of the measures in place to accomplish their highest priorities, the health and safety of their students and members of their campuses. (You can read that entire letter at the bottom of this article.)

"No one recognizes better than you the disappointment these actions will bring and the hard work that will be required to implement them,” Milliken said. “Under the circumstances, though, our commitment to the health and safety of students and their families, our institutions, and our larger communities requires no less."

Exceptions for students living on campus will be made on a case-by-case basis who cannot find other arrangements by March 29.

UTEP and the UT System are developing guidelines to credit or prorate remaining housing expenses for students living on campus.

Students are being asked to work with their Residence Life Coordinator for more guidance and assistance.
