Knife-wielding man attacks motorist stopped at red light in Las Cruces

A driver suffered minor injuries after police say he was randomly attacked by a pedestrian while waiting at a red light.

It happened at the intersection of University and El Paseo in Las Cruces – just before 7 p.m. Monday.

Police say while the driver was at the stoplight, Morgan Pearson reached through the passenger side window grabbed the driver by the shirt and tried stabbing him.

Police say the driver was able to take the knife away from Pearson by punching his head several times.

Pearson then reportedly fled to an apartment complex and officers had to use a stun gun to arrest him.

Pearson is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
